I`ve just got me a used B.C.Rich Assassin (Lim. Edition 2003-Snake Graphics) with a String-thru-neck.
My idea is, to build a Floyd Rose Tremolo into it. Now, I´d like to know, if anyone "out there" has done that and how are the experiences..
in the next days, I will check and discuss this Floyd Rose "Build" with a Guitar Tech, but I`d like to know your Pro´s and Contra´s...

Retro-fitting any guitar with a Floyd Rose tremolo is not a easy or cheap process. It is best done by a qualified guitar tech. The body of the Assassin has enough wood that you can route out the spring cavity in the back side and route a tremolo block cavity on the front side. However, you need to know exactly where to position the tremolo bridge. If you get it located off just a bit, say 1/4 of an inch, the guitar may never have correct intonation. That means the guitar will not be in tune was you play down the neck. Therefore the FR bridge has to be placed in the exact position where the scale length is correct. Also, swapping out the fixed bridge for a FR bridge will make it necessary to swap out the pickups for ones that are FR spaced. The string spacing on the present pickups will be Gibson spaced to go along with the fixed bridge. With a FR bridge on the guitar, the poles of the pickups will not be centered under the strings. You will need to buy FR spaced pickups. Lastly you will need to route a shelf on your neck to sit the locking nut. Again, you must locate it in the proper position so that the scale length is maintained. This is the same problem as locating the proper position for the bridge. This conversion is not as simple as it may seem. If you do not have consider woodworking and luthier skills, you should have the conversion done by a qualified guitar tech.
