The leading of the guitar might be made from spruce, which has a warm sound, maple with a brighter sound or koa wood, which has a comparable sound to mahogany but with an enhanced mid-range. Would it be possible to change out my stock pickups for Ernie Ball pickups or even EMGs?
I have a ESP LTD D-4 bass http://bass-guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/ESP-LTD-D4-Bass-Guitar-?sku=513746 , and I want to change out the pickups in it. I really like the Music Man sound, so I was wondering if it would be possible to put some Ernie Ball pickups on my bass. The only thing is, the Ernie Ball pickups have different screw holes than the default pickups. So would it be possible to maybe just drill the holes that I need in myself and then attach the pickups? Or is this like trying to mix Mac with PC type stuff?
I was also thinking about(if the above idea wont work) putting EMGs in it instead.
So if anyone has any tips on this matter, that would be much appreciated.
The best answer in a situation like yours is to sell your bass and buy a new one with the pickups you want already in it. Never, ever under any circumstances drill into your guitar. It will affect the sound more than you realize.

Neck: Necks are traditionally produced of the identical wood as the guitar's back and sides. The neck has an adjustable truss rod running from the nut to the heel of the guitar where the body meets the neck. Nylon string acoustic guitars are not subject to as significantly tension as steel string guitars and so don't require a truss rod. Acoustic guitars are built to the same scale as the electric guitar, but the neck normally meets the body at the 14th fret. Frets and Fingerboard: The rosewood or ebony fingerboard is laid on top of the neck and is flitted with 20 or 21 frets. As with the electronic guitar, position markers are laid into the fingerboard to aid the guitarist. Dots are also laid into the edge of the fingerboard at the exact same position.
